The field was full of unexploded mortar shells, and anyone who could retrieve three mortars shells without being blown up won the prize - the credits that the refugees could spend to buy supplies that would really help them to survive. The soldiers asked if the operatives wanted to run or bet. When the operatives questioned their ethics, Dregg said there was nothing wrong with the game, the refugees could make some money and they wouldn't necessarily die even if they lost, adding that some veterans come back again and again. Ensign Ta added that the supplies were not even enough for half of the refugees, and the game gave them a chance to get at least something. Peters pointed to some of refugees, who were eager to start a race - Mishta | Mishta(Human)CharacterMinor Characters (TOR) | , Brazz | Brazz(Human)CharacterMinor Characters (TOR) | and Grannon | Grannon(Human)CharacterMinor Characters (TOR) | among them. The operatives said they would report the soldiers to the ethics officer at Fort Garnik, to which Dregg sarcastically replied that he was sure that drunkard would definitely care. The operatives, disgusted by the soldiers, decided that when they were back at Fort Garnik they would to find the ethics officer and stop the cruel game. The operatives arrived at Fort Garnik and headed straight for Avilatan's Rest cantina. They located Ethics Officer Drage | Drage(Human)CharacterMinor Characters (TOR) | and reported what they saw in the Avilatan Badlands. He wasn't happy to hear what they had to say to him, and he certainly wasn't happy that he held this position at all. He replied that the game in the minefields had been stopped for several months, and he personally made sure of that. When the operatives told him again that they had seen an active game a few hours ago, he wondered, without an iota of sincerity, how they had been able to start it again without his knowledge. He promised to look into it as soon as there were no more reports of dangerous explosions in the area. The operatives left saying the planet needed some serious help and heard Drage reply that they didn't know a half of it. |
